Internships

It is possible to take an internship as part of the Graduate Environmental Program. Usually this is undertaken towards the end of a course.

Current Internships

Please contact Vicky Schubert about the following internship:

The MPI is a not for profit, environmental, social justice and human rights organisation that monitors the mining industry and assists communities affected by their operations (see our website www.mpi.org.au)

We have opportunities for final year undergraduate or post graduate student interns or volunteers to work on the Mined your own Waste (MYoW) campaign which I coordinate. The interns would be documenting the environmental and public health impacts of the dumping of mine waste into rivers and oceans, and/or engaged in tasks associated with advocacy aimed at the elimination of the practice of mine waste disposal into waterways. I would be happy to forward further information about the campaign for your consideration.

From our point of view desirable skills and experience would include: knowledge of environmental science, or law, geology, public health, or community development. An understanding of the role of advocacy organisations. Good written communications skills, research skills, organisational skills, ability to work independently under guidance.

Past examples of interships are:

Environment Victoria
Australian Conservation Foundation
Sinclair, Knight, Mertz (SKM)
TEAR Australia
Red Cross Australia

Engineers Without Borders
WWF
Oxfam
World Vision
International Women's Development Agency

Please note that this is not an exhaustive list and many students are proactive in searching out government, non-government and private industry to see if they would be willing to accept interns.
